The Power of Visual Representation

Visual representation has a profound impact on our perception of ourselves and others. It’s no secret that we live in a society that values physical appearance, and unfortunately, this can lead to body shaming and unrealistic beauty standards. However, fitness photography and video can be powerful tools to challenge these norms and celebrate our bodies in all their forms.

By visually documenting our fitness journeys, we can see the progress we’ve made, the obstacles we’ve overcome, and the strength we’ve gained. It’s a tangible reminder that we are capable of achieving our goals and that our bodies are capable of incredible things. Moreover, sharing these photos and video with others can inspire and motivate them to embark on their own fitness journeys.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with poses. You can find a guide to posing for fitness photography here, along with a fantastic video guide by our principal fitness photographer and company founder Collette Evans. In the video, Collette works with a subject who lacked confidence in her physique, until she sees the effects of the work she’d put in at the gym in high-quality photography.

Collette has worked with thousands of people from all walks of life to capture their fitness journey in photography form. From group shots with Personal Trainers and their clients to social media influencers, to people having undergone serious transformations. She is renowned as an expert in bringing confidence out in her subjects. This skill comes from having undergone a transformation of her own.

Despite having always had an interest in bodybuilding, Collette’s own mental blockers after competing in 2016 in NABA Athletic Figure, stopped her from jumping to compete again soon in bodybuilding. However, the COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions of lockdowns saw her finally break free of those blockers and undertake a serious transformation. She dedicated herself physically and mentally to working towards competitive bodybuilding once again, and her effort ultimately paid off when she took home 5 first-place wins, including the title a Natural Bodybuilding Title with The Natural Physique Association in 2021. This puts her in the unique position of understanding not just how to take the best photographs, but also to get the absolute best out of her subjects, and the photographs she takes help to drive them to the next level of their journey with confidence. You will be hard-pressed to find a fitness photographer who understands the human body and the best angles to display it.

If you’re considering a fitness photoshoot but find that imposter syndrome is kicking in and you don’t feel confident enough, then we recommend you get in touch to chat with the team and book in for what will probably be the best day of your journey so far.
